The Wyman Group, founded in 1986 by Cecil Wyman under the name C.L. Wyman & Associates, began as a two-person shop which focused, among other items, primarily upon health insurance delivery and service. Cecil was one of the first businessmen in central Illinois to bring the partially self-funded health plan concept to area businesses.
Tim Wyman joined the company in 1992. Through their combined vision and leadership, the company grew substantially throughout the 1990s. Advanced technologies, marketing, and high-end service elements were introduced which helped to propel the company even further.
By the end of the decade, the Wyman Group was the largest employee benefits brokerage in central Illinois, and in 1998, introduced a third-party administrator (TPA), Progressive Benefits Services, Inc. to the business community. The success of PBS was almost immediate, and at its height, both companies employed over 60 people–insuring some of the largest and most prestigious employers in Peoria.
Solely wanting to focus on consulting, the Wyman Group sold Progressive Benefit Services in 2007, and set its sights on its core mission – helping employer groups control their healthcare spend while promoting employee wellness and cost containment, all the while attracting and retaining the best human resource talent in the region.
Cecil Wyman retired from the business in 2017. Brothers Tim and Matt Wyman now own and manage the business–leading a highly experienced and talented team hopefully toward even greater things in the future.
